Transition to a New Future – a brief overview

By Hilary de Kok (D&A Communications Team)

The Transition Team is one of the teams of the Design & Align Initiative. Their mandate is to manage the transition from the present structure of More To Life internationally, to a new structure more suited to achieving our goals and to fairly representing all countries and bodies. This is in essence a move from the International Board to an International Council of Stewards (ICS), with the target date of December 31st, 2016. The Transition Team will continue for a year beyond that date to ensure a smooth transition until the new organisation is up and running.

The Transition Team presently (as of 28 Oct 2016) consists of:
Carol Allen, Anne Bauer, Valerie Burson, Steb Fisher, Ian Forbes, Ian Huddleston, Peggy Jarrett, Peter Lurie, Alyson Morley, Lindiwe Ndlela, Bill Thatcher, Anne Trusler, Jeanenne Tucker, Amycla Webb and Paula Williams.

The ICS will have no day-to-day operational responsibility, but will hold the context and vision of the organisation and have fiduciary and statutory responsibility. Operations will be run by paid staff, which will be connected to the ICS (See Steb Fisher’s short article) The ICS will meet quarterly and consist of 17 people:

  • 1 Chairperson
  • 1 Financial person
  • 1 Secretary
  • 2 representatives from the USA
  • 2 representatives from the UK
  • 2 representatives from SA
  • 2 representatives from NZ
  • 2 representatives from emerging communities
  • 4 trainers and/or mentors

The final decision on the number and functions of paid Operational Staff is in discussion and the following roles are being considered (full/part time):

  • MD
  • Communications & IT support
  • Strategy
  • Marketing
  • Product development
  • Fundraising
  • 4 or 5 regional directors with operational abilities
  • potentially several others, for project-based or limited hours
  • no decisions have been taken regarding current staff; these will be decided at a later stage

Additional roles could include:

  • Archivist/Librarian (Comms team proposal)
  • etc
